We are excited to have just launched a new collection of furniture online from architect, Eugene Stoltzfus. His firm was founded in 2006 after he left his positions as Chairman and President of Rosetta Stone, the language software company, and returned to his original profession and passion: architecture. The furniture in this new collection was originally part of his residential work.
He is working with extraordinady materials, bamboo and cork, in earth-friendly ways. The bamboo designs are created in sustainable moso bamboo famous for growing over a meter per day. The strength of moso combined with precise manufacturing eliminates the need for brackets, bracing, or pins. The adhesives and finishes all exceed E1 standards.
The cork pieces in the collection are created from solid Portuguese cork, which comes from the regenerative bark of the cork oak, Quercus suber. The finish they apply is EnviroMax, a GREENGUARD Certified formaldehyde free, environmentally safe cork sealer.

We made this custom wood table several years ago and have featured it ever since in our custom design section. Clients always request it, and we have made many more over the years. We decided that it was about time to offer it with our standard collection.
Now available online at a 24 or 36 inch diameter, these beautiful table are turned on a lathe from locally harvested wood and dried in a solar kiln. A smaller side table size is now in production and will debuting online soon, so please look out for it in the coming weeks.

It doesn't get any more minimal that our latest custom project. We created these simple 18" cube tables in natural Maple veneer for a design firm in Oakland. They were specified, designed, fabricated and shipped in 3 weeks. Not a bad lead-time for bespoke furniture.

We've been busy. Drawing, tweaking, developing, sanding, staining, rusting, you name it. Products have been in development and it is now time for the big debut.
We often add new styles to the website, but lately we have been on a whirlwind to say the least. Check out the latest additions to our collection below.
The Elm Wood Bench Table and Serving Tray above are made here in New Mexico from solid wood. Chinese Elm Trees were first planted in Albuquerque in the early 20th Century. They eventually spread into the bosque (woodlands along the Rio Grande River) where they are pushing out native species, such as Cottonwoods, altering this delicate eco-system. Elms are now being removed in an effort to help restore the bosque and we are snatching them up to make these elegant, contemporary designs.
The beautiful Goya End Table at a large 18" diameter is turned from a solid block of Margosa wood and is perfect as a monumental side table or as a sculptural stool.

And now for the waste bins...our charcoal gray paper waste bin is handmade by artisans in Japan from durable, double walled paper and the classic waste bin above is constructed from a durable shaped board frame and then covered with embossed goat leather.
It features top stitching along the seams and a wipeable brown painted interior. It is finished with antiqued brass grommets. The handwork of the artisan is visible in every detail.
The Lorenzo and Rebekah tables are handmade in New Mexico, USA using traditional wood beam construction found in adobe homes, while the contrasting wood finishes and minimal lines update them with a modern twist.

This enticing pillow in white Mongolian Lamb has a silky fabric back and closes with a zipper hidden along the seam of one edge, leaving only a sleek pull visible.
We love dark brown and black when mixed together and the elegant Montgomery Side Table represents the contrast beautifully. The top surface is covered in durable chocolate brown leather and the base is constructed in solid Margosa wood with an Ebony finish.
This minimalist tray is formed from solid steel with an oxidized finished. It is treated with a clear lacquer for protection and features felts pads on the base.

And we'll wrap it up with a personal favorite, the Steer Skull Pillow in linen with an embossed leather steer skull appliqué. This handsome pillow has a matching linen back and is available in black or bone colored leather.

When I first saw the Barbara Cosgrove collection at Pfeifer Studio, I immediately felt like I had just uncovered an array of rare artifacts that tell the story of an archaeologist's travels around the world. One by one, each lamp with a tale to tell, I embarked on a journey like no other. From the African Safari with the Horn Table Lamp, I imagined a jeep finding its way through a herd of elephants to get to the ultimate destination. The Pagoda and Foo Dog Table Lamps, perhaps an inspiration from a trip through China, I love the idea for the trumpet shaped Glass Table Lamps that came from a trip to the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

He's the man behind the cool skull with a gold tooth that you may have found if you've spent any time perusing our site. He says that his "objective is to hand craft beautiful, well made objects for your home." African art, known for its function and abstract geometric shapes and forms has played a significant social and religious role in the African culture. For centuries, collectors and artisans have been drawn to this art form because it is contemplative and exudes a strong presence. Early collectors found African art to be crude and primitive, but it eventually became part of the avant garde movement in Paris at the turn of the 20th century, having a direct impact on cubism with its use of planes and forms.
When most of us think of traditional African art, we consider masks, architectural elements and furniture, pottery, textiles, beadwork and woven goods. The Pfeifer Studio collection pulls from many different trends, but if you look closely you’ll see we have a particular love for geometric tables and wonderfully unique African artifacts.

There’s a lot of hype surrounding bamboo lately, and it’s no surprise. Showing up in many different forms, this abundant plant is gaining recognition for its organic nature. For those of you wondering whether the hype is a trend or new way of thinking, I took the “bamboo challenge” and here’s what I found out. According to two noteworthy online resources, Gaiam Life: Your Guide to Better Living and EcoVillageGreen, I found out bamboo really does have a lot to offer our planet—especially as a building material and hardwood alternative.
Unlike a typical diminishing hardwood forest that can take up to 40 years to grow and harvest, a bamboo grove can be harvested and replanted within a seven year time period. Sending 35% more oxygen into the air than a cluster of trees taking up the same land space, bamboo is hearty and can be used to make a variety of products from flooring to furniture and fabrics. The fastest growing plant we know of, it is degradable, regenerates on its own, and grows up to four feet a day without pesticides and fertilizers. Although the manufacturing process uses extensive energy resources to pressure steam the bamboo, I’m thoroughly convinced that it will soon be a new way of thinking once manufacturers find a way to make the process 100% green.

The latest design to find a place in our Eco-Friendly category is this modern stool fashioned from wire created with reclaimed scrap metal, otherwise destined for the landfill.
As always, to be considered Eco-Friendly a design must either be created from products which are 100% natural, finished with non-toxic earth-friendly products or created from reclaimed woods and materials. Click here to see more Eco-Friendly designs now.
The metal used to create the recycled wire on this design comes from a range of products including vehicles and building supplies. More than 145 million tons of recyclable scrap metal is processed each year into raw materials and it is one of the few products that contributes positively to the U.S. balance of trade, with $15.7 billion exported annually.
Scrap recycling helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserves energy and natural resources. It diverts 145 million tons of materials away from landfills each year and helps keep air and water cleaner by removing potentially hazardous materials from the eco-system.
