We love our woven cowhide pillows, and there’s nothing more exciting than knowing Phoenix Home and Garden does too! Still glowing from the recent mention of our Bolivian Saddle Blanket in Apartment Therapy, Pfeifer Studio’s woven cowhide pillow is mentioned on page 32 of Phoenix Home and Garden’s March 2011 issue.

The anticipation and excitement that comes with waiting for the September issue of Vogue to be released is a big deal in my house. Now that I’ve had ample time to comb through all 726 pages, I’m not really sure how I feel about returning to the 80’s with the re-release of leg warmers and big shoulder pads. I do, however, find myself drawn to many of this season’s fabrics and textures. One thing I look forward to every year is comparing notes with my close friend and fashion muse, Michele Cernosia, who is a talented New York accessories designer with some fabulous jewelry at Pfeifer Studio BTW. We both came to the consensus that we gained great inspiration from the stunning ads this year, loving the layering effect, various black capes and military coats, furry vests, long cable-knit sweaters, and over-the-knee boots.
Paying tribute to Fashion Week, and in honor of my love for great design, I thought it would be fun to highlight some of this season’s fashion favorites as they relate to the Pfeifer Studio collection…after all, design in fashion and fashion for the home really do go hand-in-hand.
WOOL SWEATERS AND VESTS
Though I’m not a fan of cold weather, it is a great time to wrap up in wool sweaters and soft throws. Pfeifer Studio carries a great collection of wool throws, and we are also the exclusive online rep in the United States for Stansborough wools.

Shoes and Accessories
Shoes and accessories are making a huge impact this season, and these laser cut wool felt shoes remind me of Pfeifer’s recent product feature on Feisty Elle, a beautiful collection of felt jewelry available in our showroom by California native Leslie Yang.

ANIMAL INSTINCTS
Animal prints are still going strong, and not only are fashion designers all about oversized animal print handbags, but Pfeifer Studio continues to celebrate the Animal Instincts trend with crocodile embossed leather goods and a great collection of hide pillows and hide covered stools.
Our Crocodile Embossed Cowhide Pillow & Goat Hide Footstool
I love these Jimmy Choo and CÉLINE handbags!
Boots
OK, though I probably wouldn’t have the courage to wear these low boots by Chanel, you’ve probably seen them featured lately in all your favorite fashion mags. When I saw these again, I was immediately reminded of Pfeifer Studio’s Mongolian Lamb pillows in black and chocolate brown.
Chanel Boots & Pfeifer Pillows
The next time you shop your closet for some of this season’s latest fashion finds, don’t forget to take a look around and see if your pad is also up to par. Fashion and design really do play off each other, and Pfeifer Studio is completely styling this fall with items that are exclusive, scrumptious, and no doubt off-the runway.

We were so enthralled by our latest custom project, that we decided it deserved a permanent spot in our exclusive collection. It all came about when a retail client loved our existing goathide pillows at 9 x 18 inches, which have long been one of our most popular pillow styles, but needed them at a custom size work in her living room. Who knew that they would turn out to be so enticing!

Now available online at a plush 12 x 24 inches, each pillow is created from original hides with unique markings, so please allow for variation. Pillows created from this style of hide generally have a black stripe of varying width and intensity running down the center. The brown coloring is in shades of Chestnut and there is sometimes black or a lighter brown coloration at the edge of the pillow.
Like all of our pillows, they close with a garment zipper hidden along the seam of one edge, leaving only a sleek pull visible. The cases are filled with feather and down inserts, which create a naturally firm, yet soft cushion. As importantly, the inserts are filled to a medium weight, allowing the pillow to plump nicely, while never appearing overstuffed. Click here to order yours now. The latest design to land online is an inviting black leather, cowhide and linen pillow. At 12 x 18 inches and only $125 delivered, this little ebony jewel should not be passed by.
Black has a sophistication that is the epitome of effortless chic. The purity of black brings out the true qualities of materials and now the eye is on the contrast of pattern and texture. Soft against slick, shiny against matte and warm against cool. All black should never be thought boring. What to see more designs in contrasting shades of black? Our Alpaca wool products from Peru and New Zealand have long been favorites on the web site. We were happy to see that
treehugger.com recently called alpacas “green sheep” for the ease in which they coexist with the land.
According to the Portland Tribune, “They don’t mind eating brush, fallen leaves and other undesirable vegetation, leaving the good stuff for species that don’t have the stomach to digest such roughage.”
Alpaca fur grows quickly and is lighter, warmer and softer than most sheep wool. Because the animals have adapted to survive in harsh weather, their fleece is resistant to sun and water, qualities it retains when it’s woven or felted. Why spend fossil fuels manufacturing synthetic fibers when the real deal already exists?
Another quirky, but environmentally beneficial, alpaca habit is building “poop piles.” A herd of alpacas keep their dung confined to one or two piles (sometimes they even line up to go to the bathroom in the proper spot). This makes it really easy to recycle or compost their manure for garden fertilizer or even
biofuel.
And if their environmental benefits
weren’t enough, for 5,000 years, alpacas have been a staple of life in Peru, where more than 150,000 of the poorest families in the Andes Mountains rely on alpaca for their prime source of income.

Have you seen the latest addition to our goat hide collection?
Our handsome little footstool in chestnut brown goat hide with a chocolate brown Margosa wood base is sophisticated and fun; a combination not often found in home furnishings.
We love the graphic natural variation found in each individual hide. Each style is completely unique because each hide is different. The footstool contrasts beautifully with an armchair in leather or in a natural fabric, such as linen.
It works in everything from a Western interior to a modern loft space and it pairs wonderfully with our goat hide pillow. Labels: animal hides, New Arrivals, Product Preview, Stools
This just in...we have just added several great new pillows to our collection. Two fun styles in goathide and three new options to our already popular selection of cowhide pillows.
