Visitors to our retail showroom in New Mexico, who drop in to check out our latest furniture, home accessory and jewelry designs often leave having met a new friend, our shop dog, Saba. We often joke that she is the most popular style that we carry.

She was adopted last year, just in time for the holidays, after her previous family moved and left her at the Animal Humane shelter, here in Albuquerque. Saba comes to Pfeifer Studio several days each week and enjoys greeting customers, taking long naps smack-dab in the middle of the showroom floor (oh, don’t mind me!) and sitting at the front entrance watching other dogs pass with their owners. She has been known to fall asleep on a client’s foot as they checked out and has never once met a stranger.

When not making new friends at the showroom, Saba loves rollerblading on the bosque trail and hiking in the Sandia foothills in the nearby town of Placitas. Before coming to work, she often goes for a walk in the valley along the irrigation canals.

She was named by Pfeifer Studio jewelry designer, Rahel Fikre-Selassie, a native of Ethiopia, who knows well the story of The Queen of Sheba who ruled over the ancient kingdom of Saba. Although the origin of her name is well documented, we aren’t as sure about the origin of her breed mix. The general belief is that she is a Blue Heeler and German Shepherd, maybe with a bit of Border Collie thrown in. But it often seems that everyone has their own theory. One of our regular visitors insists that Saba is Akita or Shiba Inu, maybe even both.
