Here at Pfeifer Studio, we are excited to announce the arrival of our newest collection of occasional tables and stools. They are a continuation of our design aesthetic: minimalism, graphic forms and rich materials. Crafted from solid wood and leather, each piece is inspired by the natural beauty of the American Southwest.
The Bosque Table (shown above) draws its name from the ribbon of woodlands that lines the Rio Grande river in New Mexico. Bosque is the Spanish word for forest, and in New Mexico, the word refers to these riparian woodlands. In central and northern New Mexico, the bosque is dominated by stately cottonwood trees, coyote willows, and New Mexico olives. Further south, mesquites, Mexican elders, Arizona sycamores, and hackberries are also seen.

The bosque is home to an amazing abundance of wildlife and provides valuable habitat for several endangered species. It has attracted people for thousands of years. Ancestral pueblo peoples were sustained by farming the rich floodplains over 2000 years ago and later Spanish and Anglo settlers followed.

The 16 mile Paseo del Bosque Trail travels along the Rio Grande river through Albuquerque. Walkers, cyclist, and joggers all enjoy this unique treasure in our city. Fishing is popular along some parts of the trail, and wildlife is always present. The Rio Grande Nature Center, a great place to learn more about the bosque, is situated along the trail and is located only one mile away from our retail showroom.

Another turned wood design from the new collection is the Dominguez Stool Table (above), which draws its name from our neighbors in the bosque, the Dominguez family. The Dominguez have been in New Mexico for hundreds of years and the rich culture and tradition that they are a part of is one of the most special things about our state. We have appreciated their kindness and advice on planting chile, dealing with snakes, keeping coyotes away, and feeding us the most delicious bizcochitos cookies we’ve ever tasted. One needn’t look far to see the presence and influence of Nuevo Mexicanos on the culture and spirit of this place.
